OUR MISSION

Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly is a national network of non-profit volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. We offer to people of good will the opportunity to join the elderly in friendship and the celebration of life.

Who We Are

Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly is committed to enriching the lives of the elderly and their volunteers by fostering friendships that celebrate life. Such friendships are bound by time-honored stories, shared laughter, and cherished dreams. We need these friendships because they teach us about ourselves and cultivate a rich life. Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly offers flexible and diverse volunteer opportunities – volunteers can choose to make weekly, monthly, or seasonal time commitments. Virtually all of our services are carried out by individual volunteers, community, civic, religious groups, and the business community.

A Holiday Thank You

Because of you, our volunteers were able to make Christmas brighter for over 600 isolated elderly San Franciscans. A heart-felt thanks to all who donated food and gifts, and all of our dedicated volunteers who prepared wonderful holiday meals and visited our elder friends.

Volunteer!

We welcome volunteers to accompany us to recognize and accept each of our elders as a complete and unique person and to respect them in their dignity, their intimacy and their essence; to be their advocate and their witness; to help them remain independent and encourage them to make their own choices; to see them as people that are always growing and changing. Our mission is a collective project. Commitment and teamwork between volunteers and staff are at the heart of our organization.
