What to Expect at a Little Brothers Party

Some of the most meaningful and fun initiatives Little Brothers' offers are parties. These parties are sometimes held during holidays, and sometimes held ad hoc. The parties are a great way for our elders to meet and socialize with each other in a festive setting.

For volunteers, parties are a great way to help provide companionship, outreach, and advocacy for isolated and homebound elderly people in San Francisco. Volunteers are needed to help bring elders to the party; to prepare and serve the food; to set up the party; and to provide companionship and conversation.

For those who do not have the time to visit an elder weekly, or who wish to visit an elder in a group setting, Little Brothers has parties once every month or two, including at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The pictures below give you a sense of what to expect from a party. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail our Volunteer Coordinator at
epolk@littlebrotherssf.org or contact us at 415-771-7957. We would be more than happy to talk to you more about the opportunities we have available and to answer any of your questions.

As with every Little Brothers event, flowers are arranged and given to our elders by our volunteers.

Parties are usually held in community center cafeterias or other local spaces with kitchen facilities. Volunteers help prepare and serve simple meals to the elders.

While some volunteers help serve the food, other volunteers sit with the elders and contribute to heartwarming conversations.

It is a Little Brothers tradition to sing and dance. It gives our elders and volunteers an opportunity to sing along with the piano or get out on the dance floor.

Happy conversation and story-telling follow the luncheon while volunteers help clean up and bring elders home.
